Eighteen feet longer than the Lancaster, the Short Stirling was the first and largest of the RAF’s wartime four-engined bombers.
Although well over 2,000 Stirlings were built, not one remains todays. Throughout Europe, the search is on for a wreck that might conceivably be restored.
