"Style, lush waves, twangy music, smiles all round." Carve Magazine "Well worth buying." Wavelength Magazine "A longboard film with soul and flow. Perfect waves on perfect days with plenty of hot surfing and epic moments. If you like classic surf films like Endless Summer, Living Long and Adrift you will love Slide." Pack says… A stylish longboard film, featuring the inspirational surfing of Ben Skinner, Chris Griffiths, Sam Bleakly and Jamie Pardoe. Shot on location in the Dominican Republic, the film documents the epic sessions, profiles the surfers and captures the flavour of a surf trip in the Caribbean. Surf guitar music (Sacrificials), spliced with jazz and funk, provides a classic yet lively feel. Share long lefts, rights, hollow beach breaks, powerful peaks, insane wipeouts and some of the most magical moments ever captured in British longboarding. The additional bonus feature gives an intriguing insight into the local surf scene, characters, environment and travel in the Dominican Republic. Chilli says… Here’s a film that takes its style cues from the classics, if you like the art of Bruce Brown (Endless Summer) and Chris Bystrom (Living Long) you will love Christiaan Bailey’s addition to the genre. Slide also reminded me a little of J. Brothers excellent film ‘Adrift’, Slide has a very similar casual feel to it. Perhaps it’s the liberal usage of contemporary surf music, whatever it is I like the effect. Slide is part travelogue part showcase. The travel aspect is that the film is centred around the Dominican Rebublic, and if the waves these boys scored are anything to go by we'’ll all be heading there next winter. Beautiful glassy peeling waves are the order of the day, the stuff most of us dream about. The showcase is the Brit talent, and the surfing is a sweet blend of traditional style and contemporary attack. From Chris Griffiths nose rides to Ben Skinners airs it all comes together beutifully and leaves you hitting the rewind and slo mo again and again to re-savour those favourite scenes. The other aspect I want to point out as a reason to buy this film is that it also features some of the best Cornish footage I’ve ever seen. Its blue, its sunny, and the waves are perfect. Theres a great session with Sam Bleakly at a beach just down the road from Chilli HQ, and I’ll leave the Jamie Pardoe’s Porthleven session for you to add your own expletives. Sufice to say, it goes off. Chilli Rating: I’ll give this one fat 5 Chillis. |
