The 1950s were, for many, a Golden Age of Motorsport, a time of legendary racers, iconic cars and events which shaped the sport. The unique atmosphere of these years would have been lost forever were it not for a handful of dedicated sound recordists who captured many of the greatest moments for posterity.
Originally released on vinyl LP on the Stanley Schofield 'Sound Stories' label, a fine collection of these wonderful recordings has now been digitally remastered and brought together on CD.
Sit back, close your eyes and let the roaring engines and informed commentary transport you back in time, back to the 1957 Empire Trophy Race at Oulton Park, back to the 1958 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, back to the Diamond Jubilee Brighton Run.
Motorsport Recordings of the Fifties includes the 1956 British GP at Aintree, the Monaco GP and Le Mans from 1957, the 1958 European GP from Spa in Belgium, plus wonderful celebrations of the engineering brilliance of BRM - in the shape of its V16-powered Grand Prix cars - and Mercedes, with its dominant W125 and W163 racers of the 1930s, brought back to the track in 1958 with Peter Collins and Tony Brooks at the wheels.
In addition to hearing the evocative sounds of Ferraris, Vanwalls, Coopers, Jaguars, Aston Martins, Maseratis and more at speed, we'll recall the driving mastery of luminaries such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Roy Salvadori and many more.
