Description

The incredible story of Indias fightback in the 1st Test of the Allianz Cup 2006 against Pakistan at Lahore. After a shocking performance by Indias bowlers the home side racked up 679 for 7 declared by the second day, but a refreshingly positive response from Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid gave a taste of things to come. On the third day gloomy skies allowed just 15 overs to be bowled as India, led by Virender Sehwags derring-do, moved another step closer to achieving the draw.

However records began to tumble as the dynamic duo led an emphatic Indian response to a mountain of a total on a start-stop fourth day. Blasting his way to the second-fastest double-hundred of all time, Sehwag propelled India to 403 for no loss, all but certain of leaving with a draw and starting afresh at Faisalabad. Dravid, overshadowed but essential, cruised to a masterful century himself, his first as captain, and played his part in getting 77 adrift of the follow-on mark. By the end of the match the pair had made 401runs for the first wicket partnership; the highest opening partnership for India Vs Pakistan and just 11 runs short of the world record. Within this Sehwag scored an incredible 254 off 247 balls, the highest ever Test score at over a run a ball.
