The Behring Auto Museum in Northern California regularly exhibits exciting themes in motoring history. In 1995-96, it was a celebration of the Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz motorcars. The exhibition gathered more than 30 superb examples of Mercedes-Benz automobiles under one roof, focusing mainly on the ostentatious ‘coachbuilt’ models of the 1920s and ‘30s. Starting with faithful replicas of the first three and four-wheeled ‘horseless carriages’ and including the 1922 Targa Florio racer, the largest-ever gathering of the famous supercharged 540k models, a 300SL ‘Gullwing’ coupe, the only Mercedes Benz ever built by Pininfarina and the superb V12 coupe of 1996. ‘Classics at Blackhawk’ offers a rare record of this historic occasion.
