Description

Round 11 of the 1990 World Rally Championship series took place in the usual arduous conditions normally associated with West Africa. In the absence of Lancia, the Japanese teams monopolised the event - particularly Toyota with an armada of Corollas seeking total domination. Kenjiro Shinozuka and co-driver John Meadows shared a Mitsubishi Galant VR4, as did Vietnamese born Patrick Tauziac. The event was full of colour, incidents and excitement - including one or two acts of suspected dirty work... Group N leader Gustavo Trelles ran into a strategically placed tree disguised as a heap of leaves while Shinozuka's Mitsubishi almost disappeared without trace in what appeared to be one of the biggest 'manmade' potholes ever seen!
