Although Italy dominated the 1988 World Rally Championship with Lancia and Miki Biasion taking both manufacturers’ and drivers’ titles, this was also a season when new talent emerged and challenged the established front runners. Alex Fiorio was the revelation of the year in the Jolly Club Lancia. Frenchmen Bruno Saby and Didier Auriol each won one title round, while Spaniard Carlos Sainz was probably the most spectacular driver of the year in his Ford Sierra. Old favourites Kankkunen, Alen and Mikkola were still a force to be reckoned with, and Ari Vatanen made a spectacular return on the 1000 Lakes. All are featured in this riveting video review featuring all 13 rounds.
