Olympus Rally 1987 VHS - Description

The world’s top rally drivers travelled across the Atlantic to the state of Washington for Round 7 of the 1987 World Rally Championship. The ‘Olympus’ is rallying American style and is so called beacuse it literally goes around Mount Olympus. The teams from Europe and Japan were ready to do battle and the 1st of 44 stages kicked off in Seattle’s Golden Gardens. The Lancias proved to be very strong here, the loose surface forest tracks taken at speed with seemingly apparent ease.

There were some tremendous scraps between Nissan and Toyota but at the end of Leg 2 the Lancias were in complete control with pilot Biasion leading Kankkunen and Alen. In the end however, mechanical gremlins lost Biasion the lead which gave Kankkunen his first victory of 1987. With the Lancias in the top three, their

stranglehold on the manufacturers championship seemed unbreakable and Kankkunen’s position as title contender grew stronger.

Superb highlights, interviews and coverage of the second Olympus Rally feature here and as far as rally entertainment and action goes, this one scores ten out of ten!
