F1 1987 British GP VHS - Description

Round 7, Britain

Ayrton Senna (Camel Lotus Honda) led the way into the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Wins in Monaco and Detroit along with second San Marino and fourth at Paul Ricard the week before had put him on 27 points. Second was reigning World Champion Alain Prost (Marlboro McLaren TAG) just one point in arrears. Then came the Canon Williams Honda pairing of Nelson Piquet on 24 points and Nigel Mansell on 21. With a fervently patriotic crowd expected to urge him on, it was Mansell who started favourite, especially after winning in France seven days earlier. Nearing the halfway point in the championship, the atmosphere at the English track was absolutely magnificent. Piquet and Mansell fought like cat and dog over pole position, while Prost agonised over the disadvantage he endured on the 200mph straights. This video gets to the very heart of the action, with the top teams striving with all their might to wrest some small advantage which might succeed. The cameras capture the aces slithering through the 120mph Copse Corner, belting flat out down Hangar Straight and wiggling through brand-new Woodcote Chicane. They get right into the pits and the top men are interviewed. Meanwhile, enjoy a complete lap of the course with Nakajima using the in-car camera. In a Grand Prix season to savour, find out if Mansell managed to win his third successive race on home soil following the 1985 European Grand Prix and the 1986 British Grand Prix, both at Brands Hatch.
