Introduction

Description

After a five month winter break, the 1986 Formula One World Championship started once again at the Jacarepagua circuit. For the past two years, the Marlboro-McLaren team had won the opening race in Rio and gone on to win the Drivers and Constructors World Championship titles. Alain Prost and Keke Rosberg were ready to take on all corners. But they faced stiff opposition from Williams Honda’s Nigel Mansell and partner Michele Alboreto and Stefan Johansson and Brabham’s Elio de Angelisa and Ricardo Patrese. The pace was electrifying! Speed, consistency and reliability all were to contribute to an opening Grand Prix as blistering as any, providing maximum interest to the very end.
