Five months after he saw his World Championship hopes once again disappear, Alain Prost took the Marlboro McLaren-TAG to victory in the opening round of the 1985 competition - the Brazilian GP in the searing heat of Rio. Michele Alboreto's Ferrari took pole position in practice, but Prost had the edge technically and psychologically. 1982 champion Keke Rosberg led the opening charge in his usual spectacular style but lasted only nine laps and Alboreto collided with Nigel Mansell early on and damaged his front tyres. Prost swept majestically past to again lay claim to the world crown.
