F1 1984 Austrian GP VHSNelson Piquet (Brabham-BMW), demonstrated his impressive skills by lapping the 3.7 mile Osterreichring circuit at an average 154.2 mph during practice to take another pole position in ‘84. But the man on everyone's lips in Austria was Niki Lauda who not only drove a superb race for the first time at his home track, but also overcame a gearbox problem to take the winner's laurels in front of his countrymen. Behind him team-mate Prost crashed out whilst Patrick Tambay had a marvellous drive in the Renault. The speeds in Austria led some commentators to speculate that F1 had become too fast again. But the drivers didn't seem to mind and it certainly makes great viewing! |
