For the five years in which the D-Types featured strongly at Le Mans, Random Film Productions were contacted by Jaguar Cars to record the cars' activities. In the first year, 1954, a Jaguar D-Type finished second after the closest finish to date produced a truly great race; and in 1955 the Jaguar of Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb gained victory but this triumph was overshadowed by the worst tragedy motorsport has ever known. This historic film captures the full atmosphere of the period in full colour.
