Description
This double bill special begins with 'Flying Finns' Timo
Makinen and Hannu Mikkola demonstrating driving techniques used by top rally
drivers.
Wired with on-board cameras and microphones, they show how to get a
rally car sideways and execute seamless gear changes fast while racing through
picturesque pine forests.
The action then moves to the 1968 Rally of 1000
Lakes, where the course is thickly lined with spectators admiring the skill and
precision of legendary Finnish drivers. They tackle numerous day and night
stages consisting of figure eight circuits and muddy mountain roads in Porsches,
Honda and Minis. Original commentary complements this colourful programme from
the Castrol archives.
The second review, 12 Hours In Argyll,
is a rare record of the 1974 Burmah Rally featuring fearless drivers including
Bill Taylor, Will Sparrow and Chris Sclater.
Ford RS 1600s and Hillman
Avenger GTs power through the demanding stages, which were used as a warm-up for
the RAC Rally and hotly contested by the competing teams of the day.
