AUTOCOURSE 97/98 - BOOK - Description

The World's leading Grand Prix annual.
The outcome of the 1997 Formula 1 World Championship was settled on lap 48 of the European Grand Prix at Jerez, the final race of the season, when Jacques Villeneuve attempted to overtake his rival, Michael Schumacher, as they braked for a tight corner.
Refusing to concede, the Ferrari star turned into the Canadian's Williams, but it was Schumacher who was eliminated from the contest as his car slid into the gravel trap, where it became stranded.
Villeneuve went on to score the points he needed to clinch the title, becoming the first man to take the driver's championship after only two full seasons of Grand Prix racing.
It was a dramatic climax to an intense battle that had raged throughout the 17-race season, with Villeneuve having the upper hand in the early part of the year, Schumacher seizing the initiative with brilliant wet-weather wins in Monaco and Belgium and Villeneuve responding to the Ferrari challenge with the unshakeable confidence of a battle-hardened veteran.
The season also saw the McLaren team score its first wins since 1993, the return of Alain Prost to F1 as a team owner and defending World Champion Damon Hill come within half a lap of giving the Arrows team its first victory in Hungary.
The controversy, excitement and endless drama of another memorable season of Grand Prix racing are captured in the 47th edition of Autocourse, long established as the World's leading Grand Prix annual.
Featuring incisive, authoritative writing and a wealth of superb photographs selected from the work of many of the sport's top lensmen, it offers an unrivalled record of the motor racing year that no enthusiast should be without.
