Autocourse 1996/97 Book - Description

The World's leading Grand Prix annual.
The 1996 Grand Prix season was dominated by an epic battle for the driver's World Championship between Britain's Damon Hill and his new Williams teammate Jacques Villeneuve.
Amid growing tension Hill's seemingly secure lead in the points table was steadily eroded as the season neared its climax, but Damon responded to the challenge in characteristically resolute fashion, clinching the title with a majestic lights-to-flag victory in the finale in Japan.
Gracious in defeat, Villeneuve had scored four wins during a spectacular first season in Grand Prix racing and established himself as the brightest new star to have emerged on the F1 scene since Michael Schumacher.
The brilliant German had to overcome a series of setbacks during an eventful first season as a Ferrari driver, but lifted Italian spirits with three well-judged victories, including an emotional home win at Monza.
Between them, these three drivers won every race bar one - an incident-filled Monaco GP that fell to a rank outsider, Ligier's Olivier Panis - but there was no shortage of action, controversy and innovation right through the field.
The full story of this dramatic F1 season is retold in the 46th edition of Autocourse, firmly established as the World's leading Grand Prix annual.
Featuring the work of many of the sport's top writers and photographers, it offers an unrivalled record of the motor racing year that no enthusiast should be without.
