In a year of double victories, Phillip McCallen (Honda) and Geoff Bell/Keith Cornbill (Yamaha sidecar) achieved maiden victories, whilst Brian Reid (Yamaha) added a further brace of wins to his name. TT master Joey Dunlop only achieved a single victory but that was enough to take him into the annals of TT history as a 14 times winner.

It was a year that British bike fans will long savour thanks to a British victory in the Senior TT for the first time for over 30 years. Steve Hislop on his all-white Abus Norton rekindled memories of the glory days of Manx Nortons and Mike Hailwood with a four second win over Carl Fogarty (Yamaha). Not that Fogarty was hanging about - he set a new outright record at 123.61 mph on the last, rivetting nail-biting lap!
