2001 was another superb year for World Outdoor Trials, with everyone wondering if Dougie Lampkin could make it a fifth world title. One thing was certain: his rivals were determined not to give him an easy ride...
Control, balance, intense concentration and a large measure of courage are the qualities needed to succeed and this year they were needed more than ever. Marc Freixa (Sherco), Takahisha Fujinami (Montesa-HRC) and Graham Jarvis (Sherco) performed consistently well throughout but Lampkin (Montesa-HRC) was always one step ahead. Rising star Adam Raga (Gas Gas) had a good season, finishing fifth overall and showing great potential for the future.
Trials is an enthralling spectacle and seeing these riders tackle rocky climbs and sheer drops, massive boulders and river beds is great entertainment whether you are an avid fan or not.
