Atlanta was the turning point in the 1989 Camel Supercross Series. Until then Honda's Rick Johnson had been unbeatable. Grabbing the Holeshot, Guy Cooper lead until half distance, battling with team-mate Jeff Stanton. Both Stanton and Johnson passed Cooper who then launched himself over a double-jump minus his bike!
Amazingly, Jeff Stanton re-passed Rick Johnson as they battled down to the flag on the most spectacular track of the 89 series. Watch out for Johnny O'Mara's hard charge to third and the impressive riding of Damon Bradshaw in the 125cc class.
