The betting was on Britain's Dave Thorpe and Belgium's Eric Geboers, with fellow riders Kurt Nicoll (Kawasaki) J Martens (KTM), and B Liles (USA Kawasaki) prepared for battle. A personal jousting tournament between established 'Knights' of the motocross circuits Thorpe and Geboers ensued.
