Product description

Thick mud, heavy rain, steep climbs, dusty tracks and the extreme physical challenge of riding against the clock for six days solid – it’s no wonder this event has become known as the ‘Olympics of Motorcycling’!

The third volume of Enduro Classics contrasts the same event in two very different eras, with wonderful archive footage putting you at the heart of the action as the International Six Days Trial, or International Six Days Enduro as it became known, is battled out between the nations.

Although 24 years apart, each event featured includes a truly international line-up of star dirt bike riders, an array of exotic machinery and the sort of tension-packed competition which has seen the ISDE run for more than 90 years.

The 40th ISDT 1965 transports us to the stunning Isle of Man for one of the toughest courses ever devised. Overseen by motorcycle legend Geoff Duke, Clerk of the Course for this event, the Isle of Man throws everything it has at the riders, the rain, mud, fog and terrain decimating the field as the six days pass.

After traversing the Island’s diverse landscape, the contest culminates in a road race using part of the famous Isle of Man TT course. British riders including Sammy miller, Ken Heanes and Triss and Bryan Sharp face the best riders in the world, including the victorious riders of East Germany like Peter Uhlig, Karl-Heinz Wagner, Hans Weber, Werner Stiegler and Günther Baumann.

The 64th ISDE 1989 moves into the modern era as the action transfer to Walldurn in what was West Germany. More than 450 riders from around the world faced a different sort of challenge to their predecessors in the Isle of Man – this time dust, power sliding and motocross-style tests were the order of the six days.

Among the stars you can see in action are Dakar Rally aces Stephane Peterhansel and Gilles Lalay, American Terry Cunningham, Jeff Nilsson of Sweden and Britain’s own Paul Edmondson, whose battle for 125cc honours is simply breathtaking. Add in the all-star Italian and Finnish teams, featuring the likes of Stefano Passeri, Gianmarco Rossi Kari Tiainen and Jukka-Pekka Leino, and you have the makings of a truly dramatic international Enduro showdown.

"A cracking DVD, beginning to end. First up is the 1965 ISDT on the Isle of Man. It's a total geek-out, with Cold War russians sporting a red star on their helmets and dodgy-looking but so effective MZs to ride. Brits such as Miller, Heanes and Peplow do the green helmet and Belstaff jacket thing on a range of Greeves and Triumphs. Look out for 'Black Wednesday' when half the entry DNF (and the bog that swallows a bike whole!). The on-bike footage is awesome too. We shouldn't laugh. Part two is the 1989 ISDE from Germany - notable for Fast Eddy's win in the 125s. KDXs, screaming 80s and 7'0" Swedes on 500cc four-strokes (oh, and dayglo kit) jam the screen. Both films are a delight. Get the beers in for 78 super-cool old-school minutes" Enduro Extreme
