Introduction
Description
Founded in 1898 by James Lansdowne Norton, Norton has a glorious history that came to an inglorious end in the 1990s, although there are plans to re-establish the Norton name. This book takes the reader from the earliest days when Norton was already a force to be reckoned within racing through the successes of the between the wars years to the postwar championships won with the fabled Manx Norton. Like the other British manufacturers, Norton had no real answer to the Japanese invasion and dwindled to a shadow of its former self before disappearing in a mish-mash of buy-outs and financial disasters. This meticulously researched and well written history is a must buy for any fan of Norton or of classic British motorcycles.
